Game History

Fix-It Felix Jr. is a fictional arcade game that originated as a central plot device in Disney's 2012 animated film "Wreck-It Ralph." The game was created specifically for the movie by Disney animators to represent the classic 8-bit era arcade games that inspired the film's setting. Within the film's narrative, Fix-It Felix Jr. is depicted as having been released by the fictional company "Tobi-Komi" in 1982, serving as the home game for the characters Ralph and Felix.

The game's design intentionally mimics the aesthetic and gameplay mechanics of early 1980s arcade classics like Donkey Kong (1981) and Rampage (1986), with Ralph playing the role of the villain who wrecks a building while Felix repairs the damage. In the film's storyline, the game cabinet becomes damaged, leading Ralph on a journey through other arcade games to prove he can be a hero.

Following the film's popularity, Disney partnered with various companies to create real-life versions of the Fix-It Felix Jr. arcade cabinet for promotional purposes and special events. These replicas appeared at Disney theme parks, D23 expos, and select promotional events, though they were never mass-produced for commercial arcade distribution. The game was also recreated in digital form as part of Disney Infinity 2.0 (2014) and was included in some versions of the Wreck-It Ralph home video releases.

The game's fictional history within the Wreck-It Ralph universe includes it being one of the original games at Litwak's Arcade, where it has remained in operation for 30 years as of the film's events, maintaining its popularity alongside newer games like Hero's Duty and Sugar Rush. The cabinet design featured a distinctive orange color scheme with side art depicting Felix and Ralph, and the game included a "High Score" leaderboard that played an important role in the film's plot.
