Galaga

Game History
Galaga is a classic fixed shooter arcade game developed and released by Namco in 1981, with North American manufacturing and distribution handled by Bally Midway. It was created as a sequel to Namco's earlier success Galaxian (1979) and was designed by Shigeru Yokoyama with development led by Shigeki Fujiwara. The game runs on Namco Galaga hardware, which is based on the Namco Pac-Man hardware with additional Z80 processors for enhanced gameplay capabilities.
Galaga introduced several groundbreaking gameplay innovations that set it apart from its predecessor and other shooters of its era. Notable features included the ability for enemy ships to capture the player's fighter through a tractor beam mechanic, and the subsequent ability to rescue captured fighters to double the player's firepower. The game also featured a challenging stage system where players could progress through different "Challenging Stages" by shooting all enemies before they flew away.
Galaga was a phenomenal commercial success, selling over 50,000 arcade units in Japan and becoming one of the highest-grossing arcade games of 1982 in North America.
