Final Furlong 2
Game History
Final Furlong 2 is a horse racing arcade game developed and published by Namco as the sequel to the 1997 original. The game was released around mid 1998. The game runs on Namco's more advanced System 23 hardware (or System Super 23), which was an upgrade from the System 22.5 Gorgon hardware used by its predecessor. Like the original, Final Furlong 2 featured a distinctive cabinet design where players sat on a fiberglass horse-shaped saddle controller and had to rock back and forth to "ride" their horse, mimicking the motion of a jockey.
The game supported up to four players when two 2-player cabinets were connected side-by-side, allowing for competitive multiplayer racing. It featured updated graphics compared to the original game and maintained the physically demanding gameplay that made the first installment memorable.
Final Furlong 2 continued Namco's series of physically interactive arcade games from the late 1990s, which also included titles like Alpine Racer 2 and Ace Driver Victory Lap. The game remains a cult classic among arcade enthusiasts who appreciate its unique control scheme and energetic gameplay.
