The game featured several unique elements that tied into the show's themes, including a fish tank topper with zombie heads designed by Gregory Nicotero (Executive Producer of the series), a player-controlled motorized crossbow that could launch the ball anywhere on the playfield, and a prison tower with interactive lighting.
The Walking Dead pinball machine became known for its difficulty level, which ironically made it popular in tournament play. The challenging gameplay, combined with the software efforts of Lyman F. Sheats, established it as a distinctive title in Stern's lineup.
How to Play
Objective
The main goal of The Walking Dead pinball machine is to survive the zombie apocalypse by completing various missions and defeating walkers. You'll aim to accumulate the highest score possible by progressing through the game's story modes, collecting multiballs, and ultimately reaching the "Final Showdown" wizard mode. The game follows the journey of the show's characters as they fight for survival.
Controls
- Launch Ball: Pull the plunger on the right side of the machine or press the launch button
- Flippers: Two buttons on the sides of the machine control the left and right flippers
- Start Button: Begins a new game and launches the first ball
- Action Button: Located on the lockdown bar, used for specific in-game features, particularly for controlling the crossbow

Completing Games: Each player typically plays three balls per game. The game ends when all balls have been played, and the machine displays the final scores.
