Game History

Luigi's Mansion Arcade is a ghost-hunting arcade game developed by Capcom and published by Sega under license from Nintendo, released in Japanese arcades in June 2015 and in North America in spring 2017. The game is based on Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon for the Nintendo 3DS and marks the first time Luigi had a major role in an arcade game since Mario Bros in 1983.

The arcade cabinet features a unique sit-down design with to-scale Poltergust 5000 vacuum controllers that players use instead of traditional joysticks, with a combined flashlight built in. The game takes place across three levels from Dark Moon: Gloomy Manor, Old Clockworks, and Treacherous Mansion as the final stage. Players are automatically led through these mansions in a rail shooter format, encountering groups of ghosts including Greenies, Slammers, Hiders, Gobbers, Creepers, Strong Ghost Forms, Boos, and Polterpups.

The gameplay combines traditional Luigi's Mansion mechanics with light gun shooter elements, using two buttons on the Poltergust controller—one for charging the Strobulb to stun ghosts and another for vacuuming them up. The game can be played solo or with two players, with the second player controlling a Luigi with inverted colors.
